About
Nonimmigrant Visas

Nonimmigrant visas are issued to temporary visitors to the United States and are applied for at a U.S. Consulate abroad. While most visas are issued to a person living outside the United States, applicants in the United States may, under certain circumstances, apply for a change of status. Following is a list of the different temporary visa categories. When the visa is granted, the applicant will get one of the symbols listed below inserted in his/her passport.
Nonimmigrant visas include but are not limited tourists and business visitors; professional workers, seasonal agricultural and nonagricultural workers, fiancés, investors, intracompany transferees; foreign government representatives, and trafficking survivors, to name a few. See the chart below to see all the classes of nonimmigrants.
